北领地幅员辽阔——其面积是维多利亚州的六倍，也约等于法国、西班牙和意大利的面积总和。这片土地如此广袤，因而各区域气候不同：北半边是热带和热带雨林气候，向南则是半干燥的沙漠气候。我们把北半边称为“北端地区”（南半边则是“红土中心”）。
