MXGP motocross Darwin in 3 days

MXGP rips into Darwin and the Territory in September 2026 for three adrenalin-fuelled days of two-wheeled action. Catch all the epic MXGP action as world-class motocross riders descend on Darwin for one of the most highly anticipated dirt events on the Australian motocross calendar.

Kick start your MXGP motocross adventure at Darwin’s purpose-built Hidden Valley Motor Sports Complex track for the first of three days of motocross action. Absorb the speed, hear the noise and feel the adrenalin-charged atmosphere as world-class racers propel their high-tech racing machines through a challenging course.

When you’ve had your fill of dirt-encrusted action, continue the adrenalin rush with ramped-up action aplenty on the water. Take a guided jet ski tour of Darwin Harbour and see Darwin’s waterfront from a different perspective with 00Seven Jet Ski Adventures. Or join a supercharged jet boat or a V8 airboat for a thrilling high-speed tour along Darwin’s shoreline with Darwin Adventure Boat Tours.

Slow the pace down a little, while still keeping your heart rate fuelled by adrenalin with a dive into the Cage of Death at Crocosaurus Cove where you’ll share the water with mammoth saltwater crocodiles, considered Australia’s most fearsome Apex predator.

Round out your first day of your MXGP Darwin adventure with dinner and drinks accompanied by Darwin’s epic sunsets. Take a leisurely Sunset Fish’n Chips cruise with fresh caught local seafood as you cruise Darwin Harbour.

Start your day with a visit to one of Darwin’s iconic markets to get a taste of the city’s unofficial signature dish - laksa. An enticing food scene has emerged from Darwin’s multi cultural population, You'll see it reflected in diverse restaurants from cultures around the globe. The annual Darwin International Laksa Festival is hotly contested each October as restaurants vie for the coveted Golden Bowl Award.

There are few more exciting ways to charge up your adrenaline levels than with a helicopter flight, and the Top End has plenty of ways to get you airborne. Grab a couple of mates for an epic Heli Pub Crawl visiting four iconic Territory pubs. Start with beers on the beach at Crab Claw Island Resort, tuck into lunch at Darwin River Tavern after flying over Litchfield National Park, drop down near to Adelaide River where Goat Island Lodge is surrounded by croc-infested waters before last drinks at Noonamah Tavern.

If that’s not enough action, sign up for a heli fishing adventure to some of the Top End’s fishing hot spots. You’ll visit three remote billabongs, rivers or coastal shorelines where the barra are biting. Fishing in the Top End is world-class and you’re almost assured of landing one of these sought-after species.

Return to Darwin in time to take in some of Darwin’s art and culture, whether it’s the city-wide street art, galleries exhibiting Aboriginal Art on the Top End Arts Trail or the Museum and Art Gallery of NT (MAGNT) where a 5.1m crocodile going by the name of Sweetheart takes pride of place.

Wind down after an epic day of Top End thrill seeking adventures with sunset drinks and alfresco dining at Darwin Waterfront, claim a beachfront table at Darwin Sailing Club, Darwin Trailer Boat Club or Darwin Ski Club or join local sailors at Dinah Beach Cruising Yacht Club.

After taking in the morning motocross session at MGXP, more thrills are on offer with a cruise on the Adelaide River to see the famous jumping crocs. Saltwater crocodiles are the world’s largest living reptile species (growing up to 6m) with extremely powerful tails and muscular bodies. Crocs use this strength to propel themselves vertically out of the water, which is the sort of behaviour you’ll witness on a jumping croc cruise.

Nearby are Mary River Wetlands, floodplains and Corroboree Billabong which are a significant wildlife and birdlife habitat. Expect to see saltwater and freshwater crocodiles, wild buffalo, wallabies along with countless birds species like Jabiru, Brolga and sea eagles. Join a guided tour on an airboat safari, take a fishing charter to catch a barra or strap in for a scenic heli flight over the floodplains.

Before returning to Darwin pop into the Bark Hut Inn or Humpty Doo Hotel for a drink and meet some of the local NT characters propping up the bar or tuck into a classic pub lunch in the garden.

Back in Darwin, head to Darwin Waterfront Wave Lagoon to catch a wave or cool down at the (free) Recreation Lagoon for a swim at a Lifeguard patrolled beach. Further out of town, families will find waterpark playgrounds at Palmerston Water Park and Leanyer Recreation Park. For your final night in Darwin to Nightcliff foreshore where pop up restaurants and food trucks line the foreshore, creating a fun vibe and a casual atmosphere. Nightcliff is also a great spot to catch those spectacular sunset shots that will have your friends back home turning green with envy.
